September 24th hole-in-one for Mike Senior

Mike Senior has only played the Beddoe Course at Chedoke Civic GC twice in his lifetime, but he already has something that we all dream about.

The Hamilton resident, who calls himself a casual golf, he’s only played a half-dozen rounds each of the last two years, carded a hole-in-one while playing in last Saturday’s Bruno DeLuca Memorial Golf Classic at Chedoke.

“I never expected that I would get a hole-in-one in my lifetime. I just play golf once and a while for fun. The last time I was at Chedoke was last year for the same tournament,” says Senior who used a six-iron to ace the 153-yard, third hole after starting play on the 10th.

“My playing partner John Hill said it was in the hole but to tell you the truth I didn’t believe him, but sure enough when we got up to the hole it wasn’t at the back of the green and it was in the hole. I could hardly believe it,” added Senior who pocketed the golf ball as a keepsake and bought the guys in his group a beer to celebrate.

Three holes later, Senior encountered the next par three and didn’t even hit the green with his tee shot – isn’t that just the way it goes in golf!

“After that hole-in-one I’m itching to get back out and play again, so maybe I’ll get one more round in this year,” Senior says.

The Bruno DeLuca Golf Classic Tournament takes place in September each year to honour Bruno DeLuca, a dear friend who passed away in 2000 after suffering from lung cancer. Bruno was a 30-year-old fun-loving guy who was loved by all. Unfortunately, his life was cut short by this devastating disease which robbed him of his young life.

This event is a way of remembering Bruno and assisting those battling the disease by helping to find a cure. The money raised goes to benefit the Juravinski Cancer Centre in Hamilton, which is grateful for the financial support. Every little bit helps raise additional money to fight cancer.
